New Ranks-Titles Based On Your Soaping Method

Post by Lilli » Sat Feb 18, 2006 4:32 pm

Welcome to The Soap Scent Review Board where Soap, Toiletry and Bath & Body Makers meet to review Fragrances and Essential oils.

Before you begin writing reviews, there is one more stage to the membership requirement.

1.
What is your Soaping method, or are you a Lotion (B&B) Maker ??
Please choose ONLY ONE. Let me know what method PRIMARILY applies to you. (Please reply via e-mail.)

a) CP Soaper Full Water MMS
b) CP Soaper H2O Variable
c) CP Soaper 33% Solution
d) CP Soaper 40% Solution
e) CP Soaper 48% Solution
f) GM Soaper
g) HP Soaper
h) RTCP Soaper
i) Lotion (B&B) Maker
j) M&P Soap Maker
k) Supplier

To determine what lye/water solution rate you are using please use this
calculator : http://www.rivercitysoaps.com/dwcp/watercalc.php

If you are primarily a GM soaper, but are reviewing a fragrance in M&P soap or lotion for instance, you should mention that within the review post
itself.

**** Please reply via e-mail and let me know ****

Important Notes :

How To Post Reviews :
--------------------------------
i) What type of product did you use the fragrance oil in ?
Soap :CP, CPOP, HP, M&P, RTCP, etc.,
Bath & Body : Shower Gel, Lotions,
Other : Room & Linen sprays.

ii) Water :
If you use the full water recommendation from MMS (The Sage) or if you use a stronger solution.
http://www.thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php
If you are using a particular solution rate, pls mention the rate.
lye weight x 2.1 water weight = 32% solution rate
lye weight x 2.0 water weight = 33% solution rate
lye weight x 1.5 water weight = 40% solution rate

iii) Fragrance/Essential Oil Usage Rate:
What %, how many ounces/grams per pound of base oils (PPO) did you use in your recipe ?
Did you add the fragrance alone or was it part of a blend in your batch ?

iv) Soap Details :
Are you using an all veggie recipe ? Tallow &/or lard ?
What temps are you using to blend oils/lye water ?
Did you add botanicals, clays, Sodium Lactate (SL), Coconut Milk (CM)
or anything extra to the batch ?
Did you color the batch ?
Did your batch go through the gel stage ?
Any and all information of your technique is helpful.

*New Additional Details*
v) Batch Size Details : Size does matter *grin*
Some fragrances do very well in smaller sized batches and then misbehave in larger ones.
Please mention the size of your batch. (oil weight in grams/oz)

vi) Results :
Did you add the fragrance at trace or upfront into the base oils ?
Any acceleration of trace ? Ricing ? Or well behaved in your recipe ?
Does the fragrance over-heat the soap in the mold ?
Any clouding or thinning/thickening of bath gel or other products ?
Any discoloration in your product ?
Does the fragrance fade or last for a reasonable length of time ?
Your overall impression of the fragrance oil.

The more detailed your review, the better.

2. If your favorite supplier is not already on the board, and offers :
cosmetic grade, soap safe (M&P, CP & HP) fragrance and essential oils, and/or cosmetic grade flavor oils, I will add their name and you may post reviews.
Please post your request here

3.
The new section to review Flavor Oils was a member's suggestion and included last year. It's been a great addition.
If you have a suggestion, or an idea to improve the Soap Scent Review Board,
please let me know. I'd like the board to be a valuable tool for all Soapers and B&B makers alike.

4.
Reminder : please keep your profile information updated.
If you have received this e-mail, your profile is up to date and your
membership is fine ! Please send me an e-mail to let me know what type of soaper you are and then you're ready to begin reviewing !

Happy Soaping !

Roxanne has graciously allowed us to use her Lye : Water Calculator to help determine what type of soaper you are. (33%, 40% solution etc.)

Thank you Roxanne.

Need a hand to get your soaping method all sorted out ?
The member example depicted in the picture on the right is one fast e-mail away from a soaper description.
If you need a hand, please let me know.

Also, if you have changed your soaping method, or changed from a CP Soaper to a
Lotion (B&B) Maker, or to a Supplier for example, I can easily change your method title.
